Budapest, Hungary

One of the few places I ever thought I'd travel to. Not because I was never interested but its just one of those countries I didn’t really hear too much about. I went back in 2015 with my best friend and stayed for about 4 days.

I want to first start out by saying IT IS NOW 1 OF MY FAVORITE PLACES I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. The architecture, food & people … A+. I'll never forget the day I arrived and looked around out the window of my taxi cab. I stayed in an Airbnb which happened to be a cute apartment in a rather spacious building right in the center near St. Stephen’s Basilica. Very great location and I recommend staying central as everything you need to see is nearby.

My top 5:

  • Fishermans Bastion. It’s one of the most popular monuments in Budapest but for good reason. It is located in the Buda Castle. If you go, you’ll be amazed by all the beautiful architecture but also, the views of the city are breathtaking from here.

  • Hungarian Parliament Building. This is another popular tourist destination. I really was taken away by how large and profound this building is. Especially at night, it lights up & is just gorgeous. I recommend stopping by to see and get a photo.

  • Vajdahunyad Castle. This is located in the City Park of Budapest. It was built in 1896. I really enjoyed roaming the garden and insides of this stunning place. It was a nice break from the warm temperatures. Even better, you can just chill by the boating lake that surrounds it and relax under the trees.

  • River Boat Tour. This is a MUST. You can book here. My friend and I chose the evening tour. We got to have wine/champagne & some snacks while gazing upon the lit up monuments/landmarks that are seen along the riverside. It’s a great way to end the day and relax/have a good time.

  • Gellért Hill Cave. Ok wow. This is a hidden GEM. It’s a Catholic Church that is located inside a cave. SO COOL, RIGHT?! The cave is also referred to as "Saint Ivan's Cave", regarding a hermit who lived there and is believed to have used the natural thermal water of a muddy lake next to the cave to heal the sick. My friend and I stumbled across this while walking on the sidewalk. We paid a small fee to go in and view the church. You don’t have to be religious to enjoy the history and beauty this place has to offer.
