Lisbon, Portugal

Such a cute city to visit. While traveling there, I gained insight into so much history and culture. I can't wait to come back and see more. I loved getting lost in the streets and roaming around.

My top 5:

  • Belem Tower. This is a must-see. It’s from the 16th century. I know you can take a tour of the inside but my friend and I went later in the day when they closed the tours so we only got to see the outside. You should go late afternoon because you’ll see it during daylight but also the sun setting and then the moonlight cast upon this tower is breathtaking. You can read more about it here.

  • Jerónimos Monastery. You should definitely go inside when you arrive. It’s breathtakingly stunning. It’s also MASSIVE so don’t do this if you’re in a rush. I, unfortunately, didn’t get to see all of it but from what I did gaze upon, I was impressed, to say the least.

  • Castelo de S. Jorge. A historic castle in Lisbon and definitely worth checking out. I got lost roaming around this place. There’s also KILLER views of the cities which make for great family/friend/self photos ;) You can even go to the very top of the castle and see it from a different perspective. Really neat.

  • Ascensor da Bica. A functional railway line that is perfect for sightseeing. Especially on hot summer days. Be cautious though: A lot of people are on these things so it definitely is crowded. Super fun, though!

  • The Praça do Comércio. One of the most well-known squares and right on the water. It’s very fun during summer to walk around, take photos, mingle & shop along the streets nearby. There was a really cool beer museum my friend and I went to that was located right outside the square. It’s called Museu da Cerveja and it’s really fun to go to when you’re dripping in sweat and need a break from that brutal sun. Also, if you’re a beer lover… this is the spot! (It’s only 5 euros… SUCH A STEAL)

Other places to check out:

  • Rossio

  • Padrão dos Descobrimentos

  • Carmo Convent

  • The Lisbon Cathedral

  • National Sanctuary of Christ the King

Food:

  • Miss Can

  • Tasca do Paulinho

  • Leve Leve Tapas Bar

  • Tapa Bucho

  • Cervejaria Ramiro

Things to know:

  • If you can, I would recommend sightseeing on a Tuk Tuk. It’ll be about 35 euros and you can see everything. I didn’t do this but I wish I did.

  • The nightlife in Lisbon: It’s wild. I’m not kidding. SO MANY PEOPLE hang out on the streets and there are a lot of clubs/pubs/bars/parties. I loved feeding off everyone’s energy.
